Sample Letters

Sample Letters:

A question that I get asked a lot is "What do I say in my letter?" Well, I decided to include a few sample letters for everyone to use as a reference. Here are the three sample letters that I use most often:

Dear Mr. Giambi,

Hi, my name is Justin and I am a big fan of both you and of the New York Yankees.  I think you are a very talented first baseman and add a lot to the Yankees team. I hope you stay in New York for many years to come. Anyway, the main reason I'm writing to you today is in hopes of you signing one of the cards I've enclosed. The other card you may keep if you wish, just as a way of saying thank you.  I've also included a SASE for you to use as well if you decide to respond. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter and I look forward to anything I may receive.

Thanks again,
Justin

PS - Good luck this year and in the future!

Dear Mr. McDyess,

Hi my name is Justin and I am a 17 year old avid basketball and New York Knicks fan.  I have been following your career for many years and I think that you are a very talented player.  Anyway, the main reason I'm writing to you today is in hopes of you taking the time to sign the basketball card of you I've enclosed.  I realize that you must have a very busy schedule, but it would mean a great deal to me.  I've also included a SASE for you to use as well if you decide to respond.  Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter and I look forward to anything I may receive.

Your fan,
Justin

PS - Best of luck to you the rest of this year and in the future!

Dear Mr. Hilliard,

Hi my name is Justin and I am a long time fan of both you and of the New York Giants.  I think that you are a fantastic wide receiver who has a great future with the Giants.  I hope that you remain in New York for many years to come.  Anyway, the main reason I'm writing to you today is in hopes of you taking the time to sign one of the cards I've enclosed.  I realize that you must have a very busy schedule, but it would be a very nice keepsake.  I've also included a SASE for you to use as well if you decide to respond.  Thank you very much for reading my letter and taking my request into consideration.

Your fan,
Justin

PS - I wish you the best of luck with everything you do!

And that's that! Again, this is just what I write. Your letter does not have to match mine exactly, or at all for that matter. Another question I get asked a lot is whether it matters if you send a typed letter. I send out both typed and handwritten letters and have seen very little difference in success rate. One piece of advice though is to include something specific that you remember about the particular athlete if you type a letter. That way it looks more personal and not like you ran off twenty copies to send to each player.
